Many people have assisted with the completion of this resource. Foremost is Franz Smith who sketched the outline for many of the chapters and Chris Howe of WWF who originally commissioned the work. Many New Zealand experts then completed and checked the details for each group. Taoho Patuawa researched and wrote the significance for Maori section in each chapter.
The major contributors to each chapter are listed as authors. In the fish chapter a number of experts helped compile the summary table and are acknowledged in the caption. The photographers who supplied the many wonderful images are acknowledged in each caption.
The Ministry of Fisheries allowed access to the original species distributional maps from its National Aquatic Biological Information System (NABIS) web site, which have been reformatted by Peter Notman for inclusion in this document. Andrew Goh of NIWA created the maps with New Zealand place names. Carolyn O'Brien of NIWA assisted with checking references and printing. Erika McKay of NIWA provided expertise in graphical design. Allison Arnold managed the project for WWF and provided many useful editorial comments.
Rebecca Bird and Jenny Riches of WWF-New Zealand finalised the resource and prepared the content for production. John Huria of Ahi Text Solutions Ltd. undertook a technical edit of the manuscript. The Species 2000 taxonomic review and summaries, instigated by Dennis Gordon, have been a core information source, especially for the summary tables in each chapter.
